The 33-year old Israeli dressage team rider Eyal Zlatin has decided to leave Gestut Riedmühle and set up his own independent business
German equestrian magazine St. Georg reported that Zlatin will begin his own training stable at the Reusch family's "Hof am Steinkopf, half an hour from Riedmühle near Frankfurt.
On Own Two Feet
Since 2017 Zlatin and his life partner Hendrik Lochthowe have been based at Riedmühle, where Lochthowe is the head rider of the horses owned by the Westhoff couple. Zlatin and Lochthowe will continue to live together in Butzbach, Germany, but business wise Eyal will go his own way.
With his departure from Riedmühle, Eyal will lose the ride on his top Grand Prix horse, Bonzanjo (by Jazz x Contango). Since May 2020 Hendrik has been riding the liver chestnut.
"I always wanted to have my own business," Eyal told Eurodressage. "It's not so easy to find an appropriate facility for this purpose in our area. I'm really happy here in Hessen and it was important for me to find a nice stable close to Gestüt Riedmühle, so I can stay living with my boyfriend. I know the Reusch family for many years and I’m sure that this is the perfect place for me, my clients and most important the horses."
Zlatin will be taking some of his clients with him, while he will also buy some horses to train and sell with friend and business partner Alexandra Amend.
Representing Israel
Zlatin grew up in Israel, but as a 17 year old realised he wanted to pursue a career in dressage.
He first became working student at Ferdi Eilberg's in Great Britain, where he worked for three year. Then he moved to Germany, where he was with Klaus Balkenhol, Gestut Peterhof and Gestut Sprehe.
In 2017 Lochthowe and he moved to Riedmühle. The move enabled him to jump start his international dressage career.
He received the ride on the Westhoff's Bonzanjo, taking over from Marc-Patrick Fritz. The new duo competed at the 2019 European Dressage Championships and finished 43rd in the Grand Prix with 68.463%.
In 2020 Zlatin flew to Wellington, Florida, to participate in the CDIO Nations' Cup on a borrowed horse in order for Israel to write history. For the first time the country was represented as a team in a Nations Cup. Zlatin rode alongside Micah Delighdish and Sahar Hirosh.
