The five-star World Cup show jumping competition in Basel is taking a big step towards becoming an even more important international festival for equestrian sport. On 12 to 16 January 2022, top-level dressage will be included into the programme.

"Excellent infrastructure, the enthusiastic audience and attractive prize money should attract the best dressage riders in the world to Basel," said Dr.  Thomas Straumann, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CSI Basel. "The aim is to be able to hold the dressage competitions as a World Cup qualifier just one year later."

Switzerland has not held an international dressage show since 2018 and the 2021 CDI Avenches was cancelled due to corona restrictions.

"We are very pleased that in future we will be able to offer the Swiss dressage sport a great stage for presentation and our spectators an additional attraction with the international stars of this discipline,"  Straumann added. "We will start already on Wednesday at noon. This makes it possible to present the extended programme with only one competition less for the show jumpers, while the prize money remains the same, in four and a half days. Basel will undoubtedly gain in importance in the equestrian world through the integration of dressage."

In 2017 five Swiss Grand Prix dressage riders rode a special exhibition during the 2017 CSI Basel to put the spotlight on dressage.
