German professional dressage rider Charlott-Maria Schürmann has sold her number 1 in the barn, Burlington II, to German junior rider Emilie Kirsch.

Burlington II is a 10-year old Hanoverian stallion by Breitling W out of Romina (by Rohdiamant). He is bred by Hans-Heinrich Oltman.

Two Burlingtons

Burlington II is the full brother to Charlott-Maria Schurmann's career making dressage horse, Burlington I. This pair won team gold and individual silver at the 2012 European Young Riders Championships in Berne. They won the 2012 Nurnberger Burgpokal and the 2014 Piaff Forderpreis. In 2014 they made their debut at international Grand Prix level and competed at the highest level until 2018. The stallion was retired from sport in 2019.

Burlington II was acquired by Schürmann as a 3-year old in 2014 and trained and competed up to international small tour level.

Licensed Stallion

Just like his elder brother, Burlington II was licensed for breeder with the Hanoverian society in 2013 and approved for Oldenburg (2016) and Westfalia (2018).

he did his 30-day stallion suitability test in Munster-Handorf in the autumn of 2014 and scored 8.29 for dressage and 7.15 for show jumping, totalling 8.07 points.

He was only very lightly competed as a youngster, making his show debut as a 4-year old in 2015. He only did very few shows each year and none in 2019.  After the retirement of Burlington I, Schürmann focused more on II and moved him to small tour level in 2020 with several competition starts in Ankum, Vechta, the Nurnberger Burgpokal qualifier in Hagen, Herbergen, Wietmarschen and Elmlohe

Burlington II has competed in one international show, the CDI Hagen in July 2020 and placed 5th in the Prix St Georges (70.637%) and 8th in the Intermediaire I (67.941%)

Emilie Kirsch

Burlington II has now been sold to German rider Emilie Kirsch, who is in her last year as a junior rider.

Kirsch made her international show debut as a pony rider in 2018 on German Highlight and in 2020 ride her first junior CDI in Lier on Gigi (by Apache).

Burlington II has now been sold to the Kirsch family as her young rider's hopeful.

"It's been incredibly difficult to let him go as he was almost trained to Grand Prix level," Schürmann told Eurodressage. "He's always. willing to work and was light and fun to ride with his great rideability. Unfortunately I can't keep all my horses and that's why we decided to sell him to Emilie Kirsch. She rides really beautifully for her age, with a lot of feeling." Charlott continued, "Burlington II will be her number one and that's important to me."

Schürmann will continue with Carla Stevens' Oldenburg mare Simsalabim OLD (by Sean Connery x Donnerball x Landadel), which she hopes to qualify for the Louisdor Cup finals this year. She is also competed Gut Darss' 7-yea rold Oldenburg mare Bretton's Firegirl GD (by Bretton Woods x Furst Heinrich), with whom she's eying the Nurnberger Burgpokal.
