Katherine Bateson-Chandler will not be competing Alcazar in the 2021 U.S. Olympic team selection event to be held next week in Wellington, Florida. The Dutch warmblood sustained a minor injury.

Bateson and Jane Forbes Clark's 16-year old KWPN gelding Alcazar (by Contango x Ferro) were one of 12 riders eligible to compete in the "mandatory observation event" where all U.S. Olympic team short listed pairs will have a ride-off against each other to determine the team.

This Mandatory Observation Event will take place at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center on 8 - 12 June 2021.  The final U.S. team selection will be announced on 21 June 2021.

Bateson Chandler and Alcazar have now dropped out.

"Unfortunately Lonzie has sustained a minor injury that will take us out of the observation event next week here in Wellington," Katherine explained. "We want to give him all the time he needs to heal and not try and push on at the risk of his future health. Of course we are all disappointed but we will live to ride another day! I’m so proud of my friends who have slogged away qualifying for next week and can’t wait to cheer everybody on. Forwards and onwards."
