Swedish national Grand Prix champion Patrik Kittel did not need long to gel with the 11-year old Danish warmblood mare Fiontini. At their second CDI together, the pair scored 75.348% for the victory.
Kittel received the ride on the triple young horse World champion Fiontini (by Fassbinder x Romanov) at the beginning of August 2021 after Andreas Helgstrand campaigned her for a spot on the Danish Olympic team. Helgstrand did not clinch one of just four coveted team placed and decided it was time to move on with his business, while Fiontini was matched with Patrik. The mare is owned by Andreas in partnership with Stutteri EVO.
Kittel and Fiontini made their show debut in Donaueschingen on 14 August and Grote Brogel was next. Judges Tissot, Eriksson, Holler, Van der Heijden and Ardu were unanimous in allocating the duo the winning score in Grote Brogel.
Patrik's wife, Australian Olympian Lyndal Oatley, brought the 12-year old KWPN gelding Eros (by Sir Oldenburg x Ferro) to Belgium and landed second place in the Grand Prix with 71.456%.
American Olympic Jennifer Williams is in full preparation for her historic start at the 2021 CDIO Aachen and used Grote Brogel as a warm-up show. Aboard her 18-year old Danish bred Millione (by Milan x Rawage Quintus) she finished third with 70.435%
