Swiss junior rider Tallulah Lynn Nater has acquired the 7-year old Hanoverian stallion Quando Unico, who finished fourth this year at the World Young Horse Championships in Verden.
Quando Unico is by Quantensprung out of Florenza Filana (by Fidertanz). He is bred by Silke Groeneveld and was owned by Gestut Sprehe in partnership with state stud Moritzburg.
Atypical Licensing Path
Quando Unico was approved at the 2018 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing where sire Quantensprung made a splash with all five of his offspring getting licensed. Since then the sire was not able to repeat that feat anywhere in Germany. Quando Unico was named a premium stallion and sold at auction for 280,000 euro to Sprehe and Moritzburg.
Unfortunately the black struggled in his stallion performance test and twice failed the test, the 2017 14-day suitability test and the 2018 sport test in Munster.
By using a loop hole in the regulations, Quando Unico was sent to the Czech Republic State Stud, where he passed the performance test with flying colours and kept his licensed status. In December 2018 the German equestrian federation closed that loop hole in its rules and it's no longer allowed for German licensed stallions to be tested there.
In 2020 Quando Unico saw a first son, Quandio, licensed at the Hanoverian stallion licensing.
Success in Sport
The stallion did his first competition tests in 2020 under Ella-Alea Maulhardt in the summer of 2020.
In the autumn of that year he was matched to Australian Grand Prix rider Simone Pearce, who immediately produced winning rounds in Ankum and Lindlar-Falkehof. They were nominated to represent Australia at the 2020 World Young Horse Championships, after Anna Catharina Schöffner and the Australian owned Holsteiner Cosmopolitan were kicked out of the team because the federation made procedural mistakes. In the end the 2020 WCYH were cancelled due to Covid-19.
In 2021 Pearce and Quando Unico won the 7-year old test at the CDI Ornago, as well as at the CDI Pilisjaszfalu. In Verden, they were on medal course when they placed third in the 7-year old preliminary round at the World Young Horse Championships in Verden. Unfortunately in the finals, they produced a strong ride that earned them 82.450 points, but placed them fourth, just off the podium.
Sold to Switzerland
Quando Unico has now been sold to 17-year old Swiss junior rider Tallulah Lynn Nater, who has one more year to go in the junior division in 2022.
Nater began her international show career in the pony and children divisions with White Love B (by White Gold x Dornik B), Dack von Wittgenstein (by Diamond Boy x Golden Dancer), and Hally Berry (by Hotline x Weltmeyer). She won silver at the 2017 and 2018 Swiss Pony Championships and first represented Switzerland at the 2018 European Children Championships on Luxor B (by Lauries Crusador xx)
Nater's biggest successes so far have been aboard De Vito W (by Desperados x Samba Hit II) which she discovered at Hof Kasselmann. They rode at the 2019, 2020 and 2021 European Junior Riders Championships. In 2019 she won gold at the Nationals, while this year she got bronze at the 2021 Swiss Junior Championships. Tallulah is also campaigning Grand Prix horse San Ravallo (by San Amour x Ravallo).
Nater, who is coached by Susanne Eggli and Swiss national coach Oliver Oelrich, first spotted Quando Unico at the CDI Ornago and has been following his career under Pearce ever since.
