The KWPN licensed stallion and internationally competed dressage horse Chagall D&R has been euthanized. He was 14 years old.
Chagall D&R was a KWPN stallion by Jazz out of Annabel (by De Niro x Romancier). He was bred by W. Jansen in The Netherlands.
He was licensed at the 2010 KWPN Stallion Licensing in Den Bosch, where he sold at auction for 75,000 euro to Carolyn de Roo-Kooyman of President Stables.
Philip van Ommen
Between 2011 and 2013 Chagall D&R was trained and competed by Philip van Ommen.
In 2011 they were 23rd in the Pavo Cup semi-finals. In 2012 they tried to qualify for the Dutch team for the World Young Horse Championships in Verden, but didn't make the cut.
Van Ommen developed Chagall D&R from novice to M/Z-level.
Patrick Van der Meer
Dutch Grand Prix rider Patrick van der Meer took up the ride in the autumn of 2013 and finished second in the 2014 KWPN Stallion Competition finals in 's Hertogenbosch.
He competed the stallion briefly at international small tour level in 2015 with starts in Nieuw en St. Joosland and Lier. They were fourth in the consolation finals at the 2015 Dutch small tour Championships. In 2016 the pair finished just off the podium in fourth place at the 2016 Dutch Small Tour Championship.
The pair returned to the international arena at Grand Prix level in 2018, with two CDI starts in April and May. In Joosland they scored 63.326% in the Grand Prix, at the 2018 CDI Aachen Dressage Days they posted 65.217%.
Philip van Ommen
In the spring of 2019 Chagall D&R returned in training with Philip van Ommen and got coached by Van der Meer.
Untimely Passing
Unfortunately, owner Carolyn de Roo-Kooyman posted today that Chagall D&R had to be put to sleep.
"The problems in your neck suddenly became so bad that you could no longer have a horse-worthy life," said De Roo. "You were an incredibly great, stubborn and naughty horse. You can now be Dennis the Menace across the rainbow bridge."
As a youngster Chagall D&R was one of the more popular KWPN breeding stallions and was bred to a nice number of mares with 137 foals registered with the KWPN society.
His most successful offspring include small tour horses Hippi (Natasja van den Bogaert), Harley N (Raul Corchuelo), and Helga (Matt Frost), and young rider horse Hermitage de Jeu (Chelsea Tolhurst). He produced one licensed son Leonardo (by Chagall x Salieri).
