The German Equestrian Federation has re-signed Monica Theodorescu and Jonny Hilberath as national Grand Prix team and co-team trainer until the 2024 Paris Olympics Games.
While across the globe national Grand Prix team trainers are losing their position (McDonald, zu Sayn-Wittgenstein), in Germany the national federation firmly holds on to the concept of a team trainer to spearhead the national team at (inter)continental Championships and oversee the development of established and promising Grand Prix pairs with future team selection in mind.
Theodorescu-Hilberath
Since 2012, following the sudden death of team trainer Holger Schmezer, the tandem Monica Theodorescu and Jonny Hilberath has proven its worth for German elite dressage sport.
Since 2016 the pair has captained the German team to an undefeated string of team gold success at Olympic Games, European and World Championships. At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games they will be going for their ninth team victory since their instatement as team trainers.
Youth Level
At youth level, no changes are made in the team trainer format.
Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen and Caroline Roost collaborate in heading the pony, children, junior and young riders team trainer.
Sebastian Heinze remains in charge of the Under 25s.
More Contracts Signed
Interestingly, dressage rider Anne-Kathrin Pohlmeier has been hired for the dressage input in the German eventing team management. She succeeds Jürgen Koschel.
For para dressage the same duo has been resigned: Bernhard Fliegl und Rolf Grebe.
