The Baden Wurttemberger bred breeding stallion Delamanga has passed away on 4 January 2022 following a colic attack. He was 16 years old.

Delamanga was a 2006 born Baden Wurttemberger bred stallion by Dr. Jackson D out of Hillary (by Heraldik xx x Furioso II). He was bred by Rolf Rittmann and owned by Achim Klostermann.

Licensed Stallion

The black was first licensed at the South German Stallion Licensing in Munich in January 2009 and two months later approved for the Rhinelander breed society.

He did his 30-day performance test in Neustadt/Dosse in October 2009 and scored 7.96 for dressage and 7.63 for show jumping to total 7.98 points.

He stood at stud at owner-at-the-time Josef Wilbers' Ferienhof Stucker in Weeze, Germany.

Sport Career

The black was produced to small tour level by Jana Freund.

He was first competed in the spring of 2009 as a 3-year old in the riding horse tests at local shows. His career as a young horse involved just light competition in 2010, but they stepped it up in 2011 with more shows and competing on the 2011-2012 KWPN Stallion Competition to try for KWPN approval.

Their highlight season was in 2012 when the 6-year old Delamanga qualified for the Bundeschampionate but he did not compete in Warendorf. He was also presented in the the 2012 German selection trial for the World Young Horse Championships, but not selected.

A four-year break from competition followed. Delamanga sold to Achim Klostermann as a junior ride for daughter Pia Klostermann, who had been competing pony Dior de Luxe. She never showed Delamanga, and the horse made a brief return to the arena in 2016 under Jana Freund, competing at M-level and Prix St Georges. Jana's last show with him was in Bochum in December 2016.

In 2017 Klostermann decided to give the ride to Dutch Stephanie Peters and produce the horse to Grand Prix level. She presented him once that year in a Prix St Georges test in Germany and rode a few shows at small tour level in The Netherlands. Two years later in 2019 she returned to the arena with him in Holland. At the end of their competitive partnership, they did one Intermediaire II in Heinsberg in August 2019, the last competition in his career in Germany.

Untimely Passing

Delamanga passed away on 4 January 2022 following a severe bout of colic.

"Yesterday morning (4 January)  he had symptoms of a heavy colic and we shipped him to the clinic," said Sascha Schlede, business partner of owner Achim Klostermann. "There his condition went critical and they decided to operate him. The doctors found out that he has had a ruptured stomach, so he was euthanized." Schlede added that Delamanga's team "is very touched about the loss."

As a breeding stallion Delemanga sired one licensed son, Doradus, and has 25 mares registered as broodmare with the German equestrian federation.

His most famous offspring is Dilestrio (by Delamanga x Monteverdi), who sold for 350,000 euro to Georgian Grand Prix rider Joanne Vaughan at the 2014 PSI Auction and was competed up to Grand Prix level by Borja Carrascosa.
