French Grand Prix rider Maeva Hoang has sold her number one in the barn, Blacktime, to Belgian based Danish aspring Under 25 rider Emilie Thornby Ffinch.
Blacktime is a 16-year old Dutch warmblood gelding by Painted Black out of Ulocia (by Goodtimes x Burggraaf).
He is bred by H. Van Enckevort and has three siblings - Zalzatime (by Painted Black), ChaCha Time (by Painted Black) and Glamour Time (by Bordeaux) - that all compete at Grand Prix level.
Blacktime sold as a foal at the Prinsjesdag foal auction in 2006, two years after full brother Zalzatime sold for the auction record price of 96,000 euro to the Lisman family.
Move to France
Blacktime resurfaced in the public eye in France as a young horse, owned by Maria-Hendrika Meijer.
In 2010 Blacktime won the French Young Horse Championships for 4-year olds under Jean Etienne Suisse de Sainte Clair.
In 2011 Maeva Hoang had taken over the ride and after placing in the top ten at the 2011 French Young Horse championships, she made her international show debut on the 6-year old Blacktime in Vierzon in 2012.
Grand Prix and Small Tour
A four year break from international showing followed and in 2016 Hoang got registered as owner of the stallion and reappeared with the stallion at medium tour level at the CDI Saumur. In the autumn of that year they made their international Grand Prix debut at the same venue.
In 2017, however, the pair dropped back down to small tour level and competed in Saumur and Compiegne. That year Blacktime got submitted to the French squad as a WEG and Olympic team contender but after the autumn of 2017 he was no longer shown internationally until four years later. In February 2021 he was entered at the CDI Le Mans, but withdrawn from the Prix St Georges test.
Sold to Belgium
Blacktime has sold to Danish Emilie Thornby Ffinch, who lives in Brussels, Belgium, and trains with Françoise Hologne-Joux.
The 21-year old Ffinch told Eurodressage she has declared for Belgium now and is preparing for an Under 25 debut.
Ffinch competed internationally on ponies from 2015 through 2016 with Truly Yours (by Timberland x Parino B) and Boogie de l'Aube (by Don't Worry x Varello). In 2016 the family bought Quitaro (by Quaterback x Sam-Sam) whom was intended to be her junior-young riders horse, but a hoof issue delayed that transition up the levels. Ffinch has focused on training at home and competing lightly at national shows in Belgium.
"We're still getting to know each other but l love my little rockstar," Ffinch took to Instagram about Blacktime. "We still need to find some more expression but getting stronger every day." Maeva Hoang has been helping her finding the buttons on the stallion.
