KWPN stallion Kjento is off to a strong start at the 2022 World Championship for Young Dressage Horses in Ermelo, winning the preliminary test for 7-year olds on Friday 9 September 2022. Fresh off the heels of her double win in Herning, Charlotte Fry is aiming to defend the WCYH-gold that Kjento obtained in Verden last year.

It's Fry's Year

The stunning black stallion (by Negro x Jazz), bred by A.J. van Os and owned by Van Olst Horses, seems fit and focused, and it is not unimaginable he is to repeat his feat of last year. The stallion stood out with his uphill and powerful canter work, but was fairly limited in the walk part and could have had the mouth more closed. He got 7.9 for walk, 9.5 for trot, 9.8 for canter, and 9.5 for submission and general impression (92.4). His technical mark was 76,428 %

Kjento’s rider Lottie Fry emphasized it is not a done deal yet although she believes Kjento has plenty more in store.

“He felt fantastic”, she says. “It is obviously a big step up from the six- to the seven-year-old levels. The test is more difficult, but he felt really good and secure out there. He loves the crowds and big arenas. I think it was a nice test. I am looking forward to the final and I think he is too,” quips Fry. “I think we may even add more power in the test on Sunday.” The combination scored 84,415%.

Escamillo, Runner-Up

Manuel Dominguez Bernal on Escamillo
Just like at the 2021 World Championships in Verden, the impressive Rheinlander Escamillo (by Escolar x Rohdiamant) was put in second place by judges Thomas Lang (AUT),  Lars Andersson (SWE),  and Peter Storr (GBR) with a score of 82,965%.

Under Helen Langehanenberg's assistant rider Manuel Dominguez Bernal (ESP) the dark bay breeding stallion excelled in his straight tempi changes and with his outstanding walk. Escamillo is owned by American Kimberley Davis-Slous and he was bred at Gestüt Tenterhof.

He got 9 for walk, canter and submission and 9.5 for trot and perspective (92.0 total). The technical mark was 73,929 %

Destello OLD Third

German Beatrice Hoffrogge and Sophie Fabri's Oldenburg licensed stallion Destello OLD (by Dimaggio x Fürst Fugger) slotted in third.  The Oldenburg stallion, bred by Stefanie Löhman obtained a total score of 80.015%.

Final on Sunday

The seven-year-old class features abundant talent and that gives reason to believe the final on Sunday will turn into an exciting battle. So set your alarm for Sunday, as the final starts in the main ring at 09.00hrs.
