Australian Olympian Mary Hanna has sold her Grand Prix horse Syriana to Sabble Farm as a schoolmaster for Australian multi-division rider Jessica Dertell.

Syriana is a 16-year old Westfalian mare by Sir Donnerhall x Bormio xx x Werbefunk.

German Beginnings

The dark bay mare sold through Hof Kasselmann to renowned dressage afficionado, the late Frank Henning, and was twice competed by Christine Henning in the winter of 2017-2018.

In the spring of 2018 she moved to Patrik Kittel's yard to be sold. Swedish Malin Nilsson received the ride and competed her in five national events at Inter 2 - GP level and in one international, the CDI Flyinge in September 2018.

Sold to Hanna

In March 2019 Mary Hanna acquired Syriana through her trainer at the time, Patrik Kittel.

The new pair made its CDI debut three months later in Geesteren (NED) and competed in Leudelange, Crozet and Deauville that year, scoring a double win in the latter show.

Mary shipped Syriana to Australia over the winter and began her Tokyo Olympics selection campaign with a double win at the CDI Boneo, followed by two further 70% scores at the CDI Bawley Point before corona hit and closed down all sport activity in Australia.

Hanna qualified and competed at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics on her other Grand Prix horse, Calanta and in 2022 she was short listed for the World Championships in Herning with both Calanta and Syriana, whom she competed at the CDI's in Boneo, Bawley Point, Wiesbaden and Aachen this year.  Calanta was chosen for the World Championships

Sabble Farm

Syriana returned to Australia at the end of the summer and has now been sold to Brett and Samantha Thomas of Sabble Farm.

Syriana will join the rest of Sabble Farms' team of imported horses including Cennin, Eskara De Jeu, Zanzibar and Gladstone MH which are all competed by 18-year old Jessica Dertell.

Dertell trains with Mary Hanna and has been Australia's shooting star this season, collecting multiple victories in the junior, young rider, under 25 and senior Grand Prix division. The recently earned 2022 Australian Grand Prix Champion's title, alongside the junior and young riders' title, was the icing on the cake.
