The 15-year old Ruby Hughes, daughter of British Grand Prix team rider Gareth Hughes, has recently added a new horse to her string to compete, Kate Lister's World Exclusive, and is taking her first steps at Young Riders' level.

Four Divisions, Two Disciplines

Hughes, who celebrates her 15th birthday today, has been competing in wide range of divisions - four - from pony to children, junior and young riders level, and proven her versatility as an equestrian athlete having started her international career as a vaulter before switching to dressage.

She was twice member of the British team at the 2021 and 2022 European Pony Championships aboard Shirley Rixon's Westfalian mare Hilkens Showgirl (by  Dreidimensional x FS Champion de Luxe). With Nancy Scott's KWPN bred Bee Gee (by UB40 x Emilion) she competed in the international children's classes in 2021 and in the junior division in 2022. This year for the junior tour she could also rely on Lucy Amy's Extra Time P (by Goodtimes x Indorado).

Ruby's junior ride Extra Time P has been sold to the U.S.A.

"Lucy very generously loaned him to Ruby which allowed Ruby to step up and compete internationally at Junior level and qualify for the PSG & int1 Gold national championships here in the UK, but the agreement was always that we would put him on the market at the end of the season," Ruby's mom Rebecca Hughes told Eurodressage.

In September 2022, the Hughes' family reached an agreement with Kate and Jodie Lister for World Exclusive to become Ruby's schoolmaster at small tour level.

World Exclusive is a 16-year old British warmblood by World of Dreams x Rohdiamant, first owned by Charlotte Wyche and comped by Lesley Peyton-Gilbert (GBR), before he sold to Jodie Lister for Kate to ride in 2018.

Kate competed World Exclusive at small tour level in 2018 and 2019 with her last CDI being the 2019 CDI Hickstead. The chestnut gelding had a two year break from all competition and returned to the national stage in April 2021 at Grand Prix level until October 2021.

As of September 2022 Ruby has been competing him in national Prix St Georges tests and the plan is for Ruby to ride Young Riders level as of 2023.

"Ruby now has World Exclusive on loan from Kate Lister," Rebecca explained. "Ruby will continue to campaign Nancy Scott’s Bee Gee at Junior cdi’s. We are very grateful to these wonderful owners for allowing Ruby these opportunities."
