Oldenburg Stallion Sir Oldenburg Passed Away

The Oldenburg bred breeding stallion Sir Oldenburg has passed away in Sweden on 29 December 2022. He was 24 years old.

Sir Oldenburg was by Sion out Greta Garbo (by Contender x Tin Rocco x Apollo xx). He was bred by Alfons Rolfes.

Licensed

The black stallion was first licensed for the Oldenburg and Baden Wurttemberger breed society in November 2000. 

He did his 30-day stallion performance test in Neustadt/Dosse in March 2001 and scored 7.90 for dressage and 7.74 for show jumping.

In 2005 he was approved for the Hanoverian society and in 2008 for Rhineland. 

Sport Career

Sir Oldenburg was successful in sport as a young stallion. He was first competed by Heiko Klausing as a 3-year old, winning the Oldenburg Young Horse Championships in 2001 and placing second in 2002. Two months later he won silver at the 2002 Bundeschampionate.

Owned by Gestut Schlossacker, Sir Oldenburg got a new rider in 2003: Katrin Burger. She took him up to M-level and returned to the Bundeschampionate in 2004 to finish 12th in the 6-year old finals.  

In October 2004 the stallion competed in his last show in Germany. 

The Netherlands

In the autumn of 2007 Sir Oldenburg was offered for sake in Eugene Reesink's Performance Plus auction.

Sir Oldenburg moved to Team Nijhof in The Netherlands and became KWPN approved in 2008 after a 5-day character test.

He sired 250 KWPN registered foals. 

Sweden

In January 2010 Sir Oldenburg sold to  Lena and Benny Zeiloth and moved to Sweden. He stood at Eklunda Stuteri for the next 12 years, where he passed away two days ago.

In Sweden he produced a further 482 offspring. In 2022 twelve more foals were born there sired by him.

Two days ago, Zeiloth posted that "Sir Oldenburg, the most beautiful, wisest and friendliest stallion I have ever met is now galloping in the evergreen meadows. Thank you for everything. Wonderful horse you are so missed and we will never forget your amazing personality. You now live on through all your fine sons and daughters in Sweden and abroad."

Legacy

Sir Oldenburg sired 10 licensed sons, including the internationally competed young riders horse Sir Willy (Victoria Appleyard).

His most well known offspring is the Australian World Championship team horse Eros (Lyndal Oatley), as well as FEI level competed horses Shilo (Emile Faurie), Solid Brown (Melanie Hofmann), Sir Oliver (Madita Zurheide), Sir Oliver (Marion  Engelen), Sir Burlington (Luis Principe), Swiss W (Betsy Steiner), and the national Grand Prix horses Sir Simon (Rudolf Widmann, Natalie Nedelchev), Southern Spirit (Anne Pagel), Samurai (Marion Wilimzig), and medium tour horse Sambucca (Andrea Woodard).

On Eurodressage the Swedish owned Grand Prix prospect Sir Doriol (by Sir Oldenburg) is offered for sale.
