Cristina Duran's internationally competed Grand Prix horse Manchego ARB has passed away. The 17-year old PRE stallion succumbed to colic.

Manchego ARB was a PRE bred stallion by Gumiel out of Helguera (by Ilustre VII x Decidido XIX). He was bred at Yeguada San Antonio in Spain.

Young Horse Star

As a young horse Manchego ARB was marked as one of Spain's most exciting up and comping PRE horses in dressage sport.

Owned by Antonio Rubio Becerril at the time, the bay stallion was first competed by Angel Dorado Martinez. In 2010 they won silver at the 2010 Spanish Championships and the gold medal at SICAB.

They represented Spain at the 2011 World Young Horse Championships in Verden and where 13th in the consolation finals but Manchego made an international impression with his above average basic gaits for a PRE. Later that year they won the Spanish Young Horse Championships in the 5-year old division.

In the summer of 2012 Manchego was announced to have sold to Annabelle Collins and Agusti Elias of Barcelona Horses, but very soon after Cristina Duran Vicens was declared as the new owner of the horse.

Nuria Vila Perez took over the ride and placed sixth in the 2012 Spanish Young Horse Championships.  Manchego made their international show debut in 2013 in the "owners' class" in Vejer de la Frontera and in 2014 they reached small tour level.  In 2015 the pair won bronze at the Spanish Small Tour Championships.

Internationally the pair went from small tour level to Grand Prix between 2015 and 2017. They campaigned in two CDI Grand Prix shows, in Medina Sidonia and Segoia.

Manchego ARB disappeared from the international show scene for two years and returned in 2019 under Spanish Olympian Jose Daniel Martin Dockx, who for a long time had been in search of a proper successor of his Olympic mount Grandioso since 2016.

The new duo made its debut in Granada in April 2014 and scored 67.565% in the Grand Prix. Next month they went to Segovia, where they won the Special with 71.511%. Six months later at the CDI Madrid they were 8th.

Manchego ARB's last CDI competition in his career was the CDI Cascais in March 2020, where they were 14th in the Grand Prix (67.239%).  His last national show was with Cristina in 2020 at the CDN Cordoba.

Colic

Unfortunately the stallion passed away following a colic attack.

As a breeding stallion he had a modest career and produced 15 offspring; the most famous one is the internationally competed Susurro ARB who did two CDI's in 2017 and 2018 under Agusti Elias.
