The Spanish equestrian federation has announced the team that will represent Spain at the 2023 European Dressage Championships in Riesenbeck (GER) on 4 - 10 September 2023.
Spanish team trainer, Dutch 5* judge Francis Verbeek, has made her selection which the board of the RFHE approved.
The team includes:
- Juan Antonio Jimenez - Euclides MOR
- Severo Jurado Lopez - Furstenglory
- Jose Daniel Martin Dockx - Malagueno
- Alejandro Sanchez del Barco - Quincallo de Indalo
No reserve has been named.
Two long-time team anchors are absent from this selection. Reigning Spanish champion Beatriz Ferrer-Salat and Elegance (by Negro x Monaco) won the first team selection trial at the nationals, but did not produce high enough scores outside of Spain to be nominated on the team. She scored in the Grand Prix tests 68.587% in Aachen and 70.239% in Crozet.
Also Spanish Olympian Jose Antonio Garcia Mena is missing. He stopped competing his Olympic ride Divina Royal after the Spanish nationals and with his second horse Sorento the scores did not go over 70% in Aachen.
Last year's 2022 World Championship team rider Teia Hernandez and the PRE Romero de Trujillo were seemingly unable to continue improving their form this year, while Jimenez and Euclides, who were on the 2021 European Championship team, are on season best form this year and therefore back on the team.
