Portuguese team rider Maria Pais do Amaral knows dressage is a sport that takes a lifetime to accomplish and master. She is currently steadily focused on qualifying her number one competition horse Hot Hit Campline for Paris, while also planning for long-term.

She has obtained the ride on the Lusitano stallion Lancelot PH as a future Grand Prix prospect.

Lancelot PH

Lancelot PH is a rising 9-year old Lusitano by Alecrim SS out of Artemia PH (by E-Nabo x Trinco) . He is bred by Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza.

Initially trained by Manuel Veiga, Lancelot PH was licensed as a breeding stallion in Golega in January 2022 after an under saddle presentation for which he scored 73.75%.

Owner GP Iberica then sent him to Antonio Diaz Porras in the U.S.A to be further produced to Grand Prix level. The grey stallion arrived in New York in the summer of 2022 and stayed there for a year.

Looking into the Future

German horse dealer Jochen Arl spotted Lancelot PH in America and recognized the horse's potential for the future.

In a partnership with GP Iberica and Portuguese team rider Maria Pais do Amaral, Arl brought the stallion back to Portugal.

"For any owner and rider the Olympics are the ultimate goal. It is such an incredible, all consuming experience to see your horse go down the Olympic centerline. After having been to Tokyo with Kontestro, I wanted to have another horse at the Games," Arl explained. "As a horse dealer I love to sell my horses to loyal clients, but once in a while I need a fun project for myself and Lancelot is that project."

Maria agrees, "Lancelot is a very exciting project for the future. His absolute highlights are the piaffe and passage. He has a very special character, and I think he has all the qualities to show case the potential of the Lusitano breed for the dressage sport."

Maria already had a taste of the Olympic atmosphere in 2021. She and husband Rodrigo Torres travelled to the Tokyo Games as part of Team Portugal. Under the Campline banner Rodrigo rode the Lusitano stallion Fogoso into the Kur to Music Finals.

Jochen added, " I believe that Lancelot will make a great combination with Maria in the saddle, and can even be a candidate for the 2028 LA Olympics."

 A Thriving Collaboration

Jochen and Maria Amaral are no strangers and worked together more closely over the years.

In 2018 they sold Gronskovlunds Romeeo to Akiko Yamazaki in the U.S.A. and most recently Maria welcomed Yamazaki's Lusitano stallion Ilegivel OC (by Latino x Ramalhete) into her barn. With the younger Lancelot Maria will be taking her time.

"I have collaborated with Jochen for many years," Maria explained. "I’m very happy to continue building up our partnership. I’m particularly excited to incorporate a Lusitano in this story and that more and more the Lusitano qualities are being recognized across the world."

Maria Amaral and Hot Hit Campline assisted fellow team mates Maria Caetano and Joao Moreira in unlocking a team spot for Portugal for the 2024 Olympics through points on the FEI Olympic Rider Ranking.

Lancelot is a partnership between Arl, Amaral, and Hector Palomares Arlandis of GP Iberica.

"It’s really rewarding to have such a nice horse to prepare for the future and I’m looking forward to see what the future holds for us," Maria concluded.
