In their CDI3* debut, Karen Lipp and her own Infinity danced to the top on a score of 72.890% in the Grand Prix 3* kur to music at the TerraNova equestrian center for the 2024 CDI Myakka City on 5 - 7 April 2024. While there were 16 pairs in the Grand Prix 3*, only three chose to ride Saturday' freestyle.
Lipp has developed the 11-year-old KWPN Infinity (by Dream Boy x Freestyle x Pion) gelding through the young horse program, and chose TerraNova for their first CDI3* appearance at Grand Prix level. The pair finished 4th in the Grand Prix with a score of 66.478%.
Lipp's freestyle, choreographed with her coach, Charlotte Bredahl, features music from the hit Netflix series, Wednesday, including "Paint it Black," a moody, instrumental remix of the classic by The Rolling Stones. "Karen Robinson is the one who put the music together. Charlotte was really great at getting me to pick contemporary music, but the Wednesday music I had to have," she said. "When I saw the program, I said I have to have the 'Paint it Black' music. I kept it for two years."
Highlighting Infinity's pirouettes, extensions, and tempi changes in the choreography, Lipp earned a 68.700% technical score with an artistic score of 77.080%. "It's pretty cool to have your own horse that you've trained all the way up. The connection is really, really special. He tries really hard for me and never says no," said Lipp.
Lipp has produced Infinity from young horse level to Grand Prix. They were 13th at the 2018 U.S. Young Horse Championships for 5-year olds, 4th at the 2020 U.S. Developing PSG Horse Championship, bronze at the 2021 U.S. Small Tour Championship, finished 8th at the 2022 U.S. Developing GP Horse Championships, and last year captured bronze at the 2023 U.S. Developing GP Horse Championships. This season in Wellington, Lipp showed Infinity in two CDI's at medium tour level before moving up to Grand Prix at TerraNova.
Lyle and Helix Take 4* Special
Six out of nine combinations in the 4* tour opted to ride the Grand Prix Special, which was won by Adrienne Lyle and new ride Helix (by Apache x Jazz). The pair boosted their score to a 73.979%.
"I am thrilled with Helix today in the Grand Prix Special. That was our first special together, and he is just super fun to ride in that test," Lyle said. "He has really powerful extensions and a great ability to come back and collect. He was very focused and tried really hard today."
Ashley Holzer was again the runner-up on her electric and spicy KWPN gelding Hansel (by Don Olymbrio x Metall). They scored 70.766% (USA).
