German amateur dressage rider Madlin Zott has lost her rising Grand Prix mare FBW Quadrofina P in a freak accident. The mare sustained a comminuted fracture and had to be put to sleep.

Quadrofina P was a 12-year old Baden-Wurttemberger mare by  Quadrofino out of Phyllis (by Puccini x Donkosak x Beribot xx).  She was bred by Klaus Pfrommer.

Testing Patience

Zott acquired Quadrofina as a 5-year old and met with quite a few challenges at the start which tested her patience and commitment. The mare had constant panic attacks, while handling, mounting and riding, but Madlin persevered and the horse gained trust in her rider.

The mare made her show debut in August 2018 at age 6 at a local show in Kupferzell in the A-level dressage horse class. In 2021 they moved up to small tour level and competed on the 2021 Nurnberger Burgpokal qualification circuit in Ludwigsburg where they were 7th.  In the spring of 2022 they did they first Grand Prix level tests.

The pair competed in only one CDI in 2023 in Troisdorf at medium tour level, where they scored 69.265% in the Intermediaire A and 68.108% in the Intermediaire B. The Baden Wurttemberger honoured the pair with the "FBW" distinction for their success in national sport.

Their last show was in August 2023 in Marbach.

Comminuted Fracture

At the beginning of January 2024, the tragic day came when Quadrofina sustained a comminuted fracture. During a training session she was suddenly on three legs.

"She just trotted straight out in a relaxed manner and then it took a knock," the saddened 29-year old Madlin explained.

The veterinary diagnosis was life ending: comminuted fracture of the navicular bone.

"I don't have a second horse at this level, nor do I have anyone who can provide me with a horse. It was years of hard work to get there and finally we were accepted into the national squad. And now everything is broken and I miss her so much."
