Hungarian dressage rider Inez Benák has lost her international small tour horse Ifar Tripletree after a freak accident at the 2024 CDI-W Pilisjaszfalu on 16 May 2024.

Ifar Tripletree was an 11-year old KWPN stallion by Guelderlander stallion Danser out of Zambuca P (by Parcivak). He was bred by G. Verboom in The Netherlands.

The chestnut was  presented in the first phase of the KWPN stallion Licensing in December 2015. He competed in Holland under Nina Strous before selling to Hungary.

CDI Debut

The pair had only recently made its international show debut, competing on the first week of CDI competition at Stable Unikornis in Pilisjaszfalu near Budapest. At last week's CDI they posted 62.706% in the PSG (2nd) and 58.324% in the Intermediaire I (3rd).

The combination stayed on for this week's CDI-W competition and won the Prix St Georges as sole competitors with a personal best of 65.235%.

Freak Accident

After the prize giving ceremony concluded, the horse walked to the warm-up arena, where he unfortunately got out of control and bolted, forcing his rider to jump off.

"The horse continued running, jumping over the dressage fences and ran full speed towards the stable. The horse could not be stopped and ran into a stone wall and then slipped and fell down," the Organizing committee stated.

Tripletree fractured his femur.

"The treating vet Dr. Zsuzsanna Albert together with the FEI veterinary delegate Dr. Balasz Burucs tried to save the horse for approximately 2,5 hours. Then the veterinarians made the decision with the owners to euthanize the horse."
