Mañana Mañana. The Spanish Equestrian Federation (RFHE) is not yet confessing colour and liberating its riders from the tension for Olympic team selection.

Instead of announcing the team like, for instance, The Netherlands, the USA and Poland habe, the RFHE has opted to announce the nominative entries, a list of riders almost identical to the long list they already in January. Three riders have been dropped from the January long list at the start of the year.

The nominative entries for Spain are:

  • Asencio Jiménez, Alejandro - Gaviao Dos Cedros
  • Carrascosa, Borja - Frizzantino and Sir Hubert
  • Castilla Ruiz, Claudio  - Hi-rico Do Sobral and Lario De Adama De Susa
  • Ferrer-salat, Beatriz - Elegance
  • García Mena, José Antonio - Gladiador Do Lis
  • Jiménez Cobo, Juan Antonio - Euclides Mor and Quartar
  • Martín Dockx, José Daniel  - Malagueño Lxxxiii
  • Jurado López, Severo  - Fuerstenglory Old
  • Matute Guimón, Juan  - Lexus
Three Dropped from January's Long List

Dropped from January's long list are 2022 World Championship team riders Alejandro Sánchez del Barco (Quincallo de Indalo) and Teia Hernández (Romero de Trujilo). Both PRE horses could not achieve the same scores as in previous years.

Also dropped from the list is Pablo Gómez Molina (Ulises de Ymas and Servus de Ymas).

Final, Final Show Down in Aachen?

Countries who have not yet announced a team by the definite entry deadline of 8 July are still competing at the CDIO Aachen,(like Germany)  to do the final sorting.

Based on this season's scores and particularly at the first Olympic team selection trial (National Championships)  the team most likely will be made up of Dockx (Malagueno), Carrascosa (Frizzantino) and Jimenez (Euclides), but the fourth reserve spot is still highly fought.

Spain is only sending one team potential combination to Aachen (Jose Mena on Gladiador do Lis). The horses of the other two Spanish Aachen participants are not really considered core team candidates (Sir Hubert, Meggle's Boston).

Was the Die Cast in Kronberg and Jardy?

The final show down for Spain was already officially held during the weekend of Jardy/Kronberg, where  Claudio Castilla Ruiz  and Hi-Rico Do Sobral  achieved the highest Grand Prix score of all Spaniards (70.348%), followed by José Antonio Garcia Mena on Gladiador Do Lis (68.239%).

In the Jardy GP Special Matute had the high score (70.766%), followed by Castilla (70.000%) and Mena (69.659%).

At the CDI Kronberg Dockx, Cobo and Carrascosa solidified their likely position on the team.

A contender for the reserve spot is Beatriz Ferrer-Salat on Elegance, but her 68.152% Grand Prix score was lower than Castilla's and Mena's in Jardy. Ferrer did not ride the Special.

Never listed on the January or nominative long list is Rafael Soto Rosado (as his horse Importante II is Portuguese owned). He has joined the riders competing at the trials and scoring similarly to the long listed group. He scored 67.935% in the Grand Prix and 69.042% in the Special at Jardy.
