The Westfalian state stud stallion Ehrenstolz has passed away on 26 June 2024. He was 21 years old.

Ehrenstolz was by Ehrentanz out of Ferrara (by Ferragamo x Damenstolz). He was bred by Heinz Schütte.

Warendorf State Stud

He was licensed as a 3-year old stallion in November 2006 at the Westfalian Stallion Licensing and approved for Hanover half a year later. DSP followed suit.

The Warendorf state stud acquired him at the auction.

He did his 30-day suitability test in Munster-Handorf in November 2006 but his score is not recorded in the FN database.  He obtained his lifetime licence through sport.

Sport Career

Ehrenstolz made his competition debut as a 3-year old in 2006 under Ilka Boenning. They won the Westfalian young horse championships that year and finished fifth at the Bundeschampionate.

As of 2007 Martin Stamkötter began competing the horse and placed second at the 2007 Westfalian Young Horse Championships. At the Bundeschampionate he was seventh in the first round. Stamkotter showed hum through the summer of 2008.

A four year break from showing followed and in 2012 Ehrenstolz returned to the national arena with Peter Borggreve at M-level.  In 2013 he did his first Prix St Georges level test and showed at S-level through May 2014.

In 2016 Ehrenstolz returned to the arena for two local shows under Jasna Offer at M** level. His last show was in September 2016 at age 13.

Last year Ehrenstolz led the traditional Jacobowski Quadrille under saddle master Torsten Kneupper at the NRW state stud .

Legacy

As a breeding stallion he only sired one licensed son Ehrensache (by Ehrenstolz x Lauries Crusador xx). He sired six state premium daughters.

He has 101 offspring registered in sport in Germany. One of them is competing at S-level (Julia Husmann's Emirat) in that country. In Poland El Greco competes at small tour level with Filip Kowalski and in Russia Regina Isachkina has the Grand Prix mare La Fleur (by Ehrenstolz x Fidermark), which was bought for   140,000 euro at the 2011 Westfalian Autumn Elite auction. She was called Ein Offenbarung at the time. Youngster Ernesto (by Ehrenstolz x First Selection) tried out for the German team at the WCYH selection trial with Marcus Hermes, but did not make the cut.

Ehrenstolz was put to sleep on 26 June 2024.

"With his impressive appearance and constant willingness to perform, the son of Ehrentanz I combined all the positive attributes of a worthy representative of the E line," Warendorf posted upon Ehrenstolz' passing/ "Even trained up to the advanced class and highly placed, the stallion was particularly effective in breeding through his daughters, who caused a sensation at broodmare tests and at elite shows."
