Kurt Gosmer, the breeder of Isabell Werth's Olympic team gold and individual silver winning mare Wendy, has become the recipient of the Danish Warmblood Medal of Merit.
Jan Pedersen, president of the Danish Warmblood society, and Andreas Helgstrand, who produced the mare to Grand Prix level, visited Gosmer at home to present him with the medal.
Queenparks Wendy
The Brønderslev based Kurt Gosmer bred Queenparks Wendy ten years ago at his yard in the village of Dronninglund, which is Danish for "Queenpark"
Gosmer is no longer actively breeding and was forced to sell his farm and stock years ago for health reasons. He sold Wendy as a foal to fellow breeder Annette Bugge, who was also forced to sell Wendy for personal reasons and sent a video to Andreas Helgstrand, who bought her straight away.
As a 3-year old mare Wendy was named a gold medal mare (Brilliantring mare) at the Danish Warmblood Elite Mare Show in Vilhelmsborg. The champion's title at the elite mare show went to Skovens Tzarina, who is now also in Isabell Werth's barn but not yet competing at Grand Prix level.
Shortly after the elite mare show Helgstrand sold the mare to a new investor that knocked on his door: French based Danish Bollette Wandt of Chateau de Fontaine.
From Helgstrand to Werth
Queenparks Wendy competed with Helgstrand up the levels. They won the 2019 Danish Warmblood Young Horse Championship in Herning and 2019 Danish Young Horse Championships and got bronze at the 2019 World Young Horse Championships. They were sixth at the 2021 World Young Horse Championships. He skipped the small tour and immediately took her out at Grand Prix level at age 8 in 2022 but did not make it on the Danish team for the 2022 World Championships. In 2023 Andreas tried again with Jovian and Wendy, but with Wendy has got eliminated twice for blood in the mouth on the winter circuit. She then recovered and they scored between 73 - 74% in the next few CDI's but had "only" 71% in Aachen 2023. It was Jovian who took the spotlight and with whom Andreas made the Danish team for the 2023 European Championships in Riesenbeck.
Because Helgstrand was excluded from the Danish team in 2024 following Operation X, Wendy was allocated to Isabell Werth at the start of 2024 and Bolette Wandt negotiated an ownership share for Madeleine Winter-Schulze. Werth swept the CDI Mannheim and CDIO Aachen with the rebranded "Wendy de Fontaine" and claimed team gold and individual silver at the 2024 Olympics.
