The Oldenburg licensed stallion Rubinero has passed away at age 25. The last eight years of his life he resided at Hilltop Farm in the U.S.A. in its guest stallion programme.
Rubinero was a 1999 born Oldenburg stallion by Rubinstein out of Faola (by Ex Libris x Furioso II). He was bred by Franz-Josef Wieghaus-Vorwerk.
Gestut Vorwerk
Owned by Gudula Vorwerk-Happ, the black stallion first did his 70-day stallion performance test in the autumn of 2003, scoring 140.54 for dressage (2nd) and 115,03 for show jumping (9th) to finish on a total index score of 133.2 points, which ranked him third out of 46 participating stallions.
He was then licensed for the Hanoverian and Oldenburg verband in November 2003.
Sold to the U.S.A.
In 2014, at age 15, Rubinero sold to Americans Rick Rockefeller-Silvia and Dawn Bernardo (now Sears) of Dream Street Stallions in Florida.
Dawn and Rubinero competed for two more seasons and made their CDI debut in March 2015 in Wellington. They rode in three CDI's. Rubinero's last show was the CDI Wellington at the end of February.
Legacy
Rubinero was retired from sport and spent the last 8 years at Hilltop Farm.
As a sire, Rubinero has one approved son (a nameless Mecklenburger licensed son bred by Nicole Nehm. He disappeared after his licensing). Rubinero has 119 daughters who are registered as broodmare with the German FN, five of them are state premium mares.
Hilltop Farm reported the passing of the stallion.
"Rubinero’s kind and people-oriented character endeared him to all the Hilltop Farm staff who had the pleasure of working with him over the years. His time here at Hilltop was filled with much love and giving us all many positive memories to reflect on in the days ahead."
