Iron Spring Farm is pleased to announce that their eight-year-old Oldenburg stallion Lowlands OLD has arrived in the United States.
The gorgeous black stallion has been showing in Europe with Olympian Dinja van Liere for the past four years. Lowlands received incredible scores as high as 9.34 in the young horse classes and continued winning through Prix St. Georges, receiving 72% and above.
Lowlands will be available to North American breeders via cooled semen in 2025.
Great Rideability and High Quality Gaits
“Lowlands has a lot of suppleness in all his gaits, a very good walk and a very smooth and energetic trot and canter,” van Liere said. “He’s a super hard worker and he is very smart, so he picks up everything very easily and he loves new things.”
Lowlands and van Liere have had many highlights together. They finished in fourth place in the 2021 Pavo Cup, five-year-old division, receiving an 89.4 in the final round. In 2022, they competed in the Bundeschampionat, six-year-old division, and began winning Z level classes with scores up to 85%. In 2023, Lowlands won the silver medal in the ZZ-Zwaar division at the Dutch National Championships. He then debuted at Prix St. Georges, receiving a 71.912% his first time out.
“His personality is super cool,” Van Liere said. “He is such a cool dude, never spooky, and always willing to work. And he is very funny!”
Lowlands Offers Fresh Bloodlines to North American Breeders
Throughout his career, Lowlands combined both sport and breeding duties. His first European foal crops have inherited his good conformation and beauty, with many awarded 1st Premium designation.
“We’re thrilled to have Lowlands in the United States,” said Meghan deGaray, breeding manager at Iron Spring Farm. “I met him in person earlier this year in the Netherlands. He’s very sweet and confident and loves to interact with everyone. He’s very exciting because he brings much needed fresh bloodlines that will cross really well with North American mares that have Jazz, Ferro and Flemmingh in their pedigrees.”
Lowlands was bred by the successful German breeder Bernhard Schrapper. He is by Millennium (Easy Game, Elite x Ravel, Elite), who was named the 2022 Trakehner stallion of the year. Millennium is a successful CDI small tour horse and the renowned sire of more than 60 Licensed stallions, along with many extraordinary, well-decorated mares. Lowlands’ motherline is equally impressive. His dam, La Donna S, is an Elite States Premium mare and was selected for the prestigious Brilliantring at the Oldenburg Elite Mare Show in Rastede. She is a daughter of the Oldenburg Premium stallion Donnerball, who was successful as a young horse through Grand Prix. In addition to Lowlands, she has produced two Licensed sons, a daughter competing at Prix St. Georges and an Elite foal.
Lowlands Stamps His Offspring
Iron Spring Farm bought Lowlands from Eugene Reesink in February 2020 to add to the ISF breeding program.
“[Lowlands] was running with 15 other mares and foals in a big field and he was the special one,” Reesink said of spotting Lowlands at just six weeks of age. “His whole family is really good sport horses. The rideability is really, really high.”
Reesink was also interested in Lowlands because of Landadel in the third generation. “Landadel is one of the better Landgraf sons. He produced beautiful, rideable, really good stallions,” he said.
This rideability has come through in Lowlands. “As a riding horse, he is always working with the rider. He’s always willing and never against the rider,” Reesink explained.
As a sire, “Lowlands stamps his foals with his conformation. He gives beautiful offspring who look like him–long lines, very modern,” Reesink said. “This is not a surprise. His mother was one of the most beautiful mares in Oldenburg in her time. His grandmother and great grandmother were also beautiful horses.”
For North American breeders, Lowlands brings exciting new bloodlines, talent and a temperament that works for professional and amateur riders alike. He will be available for breeding in 2025 via cooled semen at Iron Spring Farm. He’s Approved KWPN, HAN and OLD.
