Mette Uldahl, the former veterinary consultant for the Danish equestrian federation (DRF), has been appointed chief consultant for "Dyrenes Beskyttelse", i.e. Animal Protection Denmark.

Ridehesten wrote that Uldahl is a trained veterinarian, who has worked as a veterinary consultant for the Danish Riding Association for the past 12 years. She resigned in September 2024 as she "no longer felt that the riding association lived up to the job description that belongs to the role of veterinary consultant."

Uldahl worked for horse welfare, correct medication and anti-doping under the auspices of DRF. In September, she resigned from her position. She also sits on the board of the European Veterinary Association and does research projects with a number of universities on animal welfare in general, but with a particular focus on horses.

Animal Protection Denmark has hired her now as chief consultant.

"My entire professional life I have worked to give animals a voice. Together with the rest of Dyrenes Beskytselse, I will be happy to be the horse's voice when we have to improve an equestrian environment, where recognition, prestige and traditions mean that the horses' welfare and well-being are all too often overlooked, down-prioritised or completely lost," said Uldahl.

She continued, "in my view, Dyrenes Beskytselse are the right people to influence equestrian sports in a more modern direction with the horses in focus, and I want to be a part of that."
