The palomino Swedish warmblood licensed stallion Zafferano will be moving to the state stud in Celle for the 2025 breeding season.
Zafferano is an 11-year old stallion by Zaladin MI out of Baby Doll (by Bernstein x Chagall). He is bred and owned by the Skeppstrand family.
Licensed
Zafferano was licensed with the Swedish warmblood society in 2016 after completing his performancee test with 8s for type, conformation, walk and trot. He got 8.5 for canter and 8 for rideability.
He did the 50-day stallion performance test in Schlieckau in the autumn of 2016 and scored 8.4 for dressage.
He got his lifetime SWB approval in 2017 and is also approved in Hannover and Oldenburg.
Sport Career
He was first competed as a 4-year old by Philipp Ruwe in 2017. In 2019 he returned to the arena with a new rider, Mattias Jansson.
In 2020 Jansson and Zafferanno placed fourth at the Swedish Young Horse Championships for 7-year olds. He showed the horse at two shows in 2021.
In 2022 Ruwe was briefly back onboard and he did several S-level tests in Ankum before placing 19th in the warm-up round of the Nurnberger Burgpokal qualifier in Hagen. At the end of 2022 Jansson got the ride back and rode hiù in his first Inter II in Sweden; followed by an Inter II and two Grand Prix tests during one show weekend in Vreschen-Bokel on 17 - 19 March 2023. It was the stallion's last competition.
Breeding
Aside from his Swedish dressage pedigree the palomino stallion attracted attention from the breeders with his coat. He has 379 offspring registered on Blup.se
He has been one of the more popular stallions in Sweden with, for instance, 103 mares covered in 2023. His best known offspring is Zucchero who competed at the 2024 World Young Horse Championships under Minna Telde.
