Double Olympic champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl finished third in the race for the title of 2024 German Sportswoman of the Year.
The titles were announced at the 78th Sportsman of the Year gala in Baden-Baden on 15 December 2024.
The title of "Sportswoman of the Year" 2024 went to 18-year old gymnast Darja Varfolomeev, who narrowly beat shot putter Yemisi Ogunleye. Isabell Werth was fourth.
To select the “Athlete (Male & Female) and Team of the Year”, the team athletes of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) make a preliminary selection. The final vote is then carried out by the members of the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDK).
In the vote for the “Team of the Year” 2024, the German dressage riders came fourth. The title was secured by the 3x3 basketball women ahead of the Leverkusen men’s football team and the men’s national handball team.
Rower Oliver Zeidler won the 2024 “Sportsman of the Year” award ahead of swimmer Lukas Märtens and triathlon ace Patrick Lange. Michael Jung, who won the individual eventing title in Paris for the third time after 2012 and 2016, came fifth.
