At the annual Equigala Riders Ball in Brussels, the Belgian equestrian federation (KBRSF) announced that it has launched a bid to host the 2027 European Championships.
Ambitions are great as the Championships would be a multi-discipline event with dressage, show jumping, para dressage and eventing.
The intended venue for these Championships would be equestrian center "De Gaverbeek" in Waregem, where previously CDI's have been hosted.
The project is supported by the Flemish government, in partnership with sports consultancy company Golazo (Bob Verbeeck), Horse Sport Flanders, and the Belgian equestrian federation.
The 2007 European Championships are a very important event on the calendar as they will serve as team qualifier for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
"By hosting the European Championships we'll create leverage, which will put our sport and the entire industry on the map worldwide," said KBRSF chair Stephan Detry.
The KBRSF also has a new vice-chair, Bart Stokmans, a former rider who is also on the board of directors of Lotto, Belgium's national lottery. He is closely connected to FEI president Ingmar de Vos. Stokmans was part of the organizing committee of Jumping Kapellen.
