Danish young rider Sophia Obel Jorgensen has debuted Delatio at Intermediaire II level at the 2025 CDN Esbjerg on 24 January 2025.
The 21-year old Hanoverian stallion (by De Niro x Rubinstein) is an international, decorated Grand Prix horse who has carried a string of riders into the competition ring. He is bred by Ulrike and Reinhold Bosse.
From the Licensing to Grand Prix
He was discovered as a foal by Bernhard Schaerffer, who acquired it as a price highlight at the Verden Foal Auction in 2004. He was licensed with the Hanoverian society and won the 70-day performance test in Adelheidsdorf.
Under Hannes Baumgart he qualified for the 2007 Bundeschampionate, where he finished 10th in the 3-year old stallion warm-up round. In the winter of 2007-2008 Delatio sold to The Netherlands to Miranda Rongen and Dutch company Decor Son.
Ulrich Kasselmann bought Delatio in Holland and sold it to his Russian client Elena Knyaginicheva. In the spring of 2017 Bianca Kasselmann premiered him at Grand Prix level, after which British Emile Faurie made the international break through of the stallion possible. The pair won the 2017 Hamburg Dressage Derby and the horse achieved its first stellar score at the 2017 World Cup Qualifier in London, where they finished second cracking the 80% for the first time with 80.405%. They qualified for the 2018 World Cup Finals in Paris, but a small injury right before the show kept them home.
When Faurie opted to ride Dono di Maggio on the bronze medal winning British team at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, the owner decided to move Delatio to Patrik Kittel's yard to be sold. Kittel also achieved 80% Kur scores on the talented stallion at the World Cup qualifiers in Lyon and Salzburg.
Malaysian Olympic Hopeful
Delatio sold to Malaysian Qabil Ambak via his trainer, Danish Grand Prix rider Dennis Fisker, with the mission to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In 2019 Ambak showed the horse in 12 CDI's in 10 months time to secure an individual slot for Malaysia, but Korea and New Zealand ended up with the spot.
At the start of 2020 Dennis Fisker rode the stallion in the CDI's in Lillestrom and Aarhus and then corona came, which led to a one-year postponement of the Olympics. In June 2021 the FEI announced that a spot had freed up for Malaysia, but Ambak hadn't competed his horse in 1.5 years and rushed to Europe last minute to get his two 66% MER scores again. He showed in Le Mans and got 64%. He gave up on his Olympic dream.
Le Mans was Delatio's last international show.
Schoolmaster
Delatio remained with Fisker in Denmark who let Carl-Christian Saedder Savola ride the horse in an Intermediaire II class at a national show in Silkeborg in 2023. The pair scored 62.237%.
In April 2024 it was announced that the 20-year old Delatio had moved on to 21-year old Danish Johanne Amby Ubbesen as a U25 schoolmaster. The pair competed in two national shows in May 2024. In Aalborg in an Inter 2 test and at the 2024 Danish Under 25 Championships, where they finished 12th. Delatio was returned to Fisker though as he turned out to be "too stallion" to handle, Ambak told Eurodressage.
The ride has now been passed on to Fisker's long-time student Sophia Obel, who represented Denmark at the 2020 and 2021 European Pony Championships and at the 2022 and 2023 European Junior Riders Championships. In 2024 Obel showed at young riders level with Highfive Fuglsang and Askari Pilekaer and at U25 level with Foldagers Chablis.
She made her show debut on Delatio in an Intermediaire II test at the 2025 CDN Esbjerg finishing second with 69.562%. She rode a second Inter II test two days later and scored 68.245%.
"Delatio still belongs to Qabil, who has him at our place, and Sofia uses him for practice," coach Denns Fisker told Eurodressage. "He gets training three times a week and enjoys walks in the forest, relishing his old age. He’s 21 years old, but still looks great. It’s nice that he’s still in the stable."
