The IOC, the official body which ratifies Olympic results, has not yet confirmed the changed dressage team ranking at the 2024 Olympic Games.
The FEI has posted a different team ranking in its results database from the IOC following the disqualification of Belgian teal rider Domien Michiels after testing positive to a prohibited substance.
Different Team Results
The Belgian Equestrian Federation (KBRSF) was never notified of the new team results. Equestrian media publications Horse and Hound and Cheval Magazine spotted the news ranking in the FEI database and made the situation public.
Eurodressage posted an article on 20 March in which the FEI and KBRSF were asked for additional information. Only the FEI responded.
The KBRSF posted a statement on its website on 21 March:
Following recent questions and uncertainties about the ranking of the Belgian dressage team at the Olympic Games in Paris, we would like to clarify that the International Test Agency (ITA) has stated very clearly in its final decision that the results of the Belgian dressage team in the Dressage Team Grand Prix of August 3, 2024 will not be disqualified.
Specifically, the ITA mentions the following clause in its decision: “29. In the present case, the ITA considers that exceptional circumstances warrant that the results of the Belgium Team in the Dressage Team Grand Prix on 3 August 2024 are not to be disqualified.”
The Belgian Federation will, together with the IOC, raise the issue of the modified publication of the final result on the FEI website.
IOC Ratification
The FEI confirmed on 21 March to Eurodressage that "the IOC have clarified that the process of revising the results from the Dressage team competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is currently being handled by the IOC Legal Department.
The FEI spokesperson continued, "It needs ratification from the IOC Executive Board as the revision leads to changes in the diplomas to be issued for teams that will move up in the ranking."
"As you know, teams ranked from fourth through eighth, are issued with Olympic diplomas. This approval is due to take place in April. Once this is confirmed, the Olympic Results Information System (ORIS) will action the update."
