
Trakehner RLP reported that the Trakehner horse breeder Horst Ebert has passed away on 20 March 2025 after a long period of illness. He was 88 years old.
Ebert was one of the most successful Trakehner horse breeders, having bred no less than 8 licensed stallions, 20 state premium mares and 3 mare champions.
Ebert's most famous breeding products were the elite stallion and 2010 Trakehner Stallion of the Year Buddenbrock (by Sixtus x Diamant) as well as elite sire Benz (by Rockefeller w Burnus AA x Pindar xx). He bred licensed stallions Blitz and Donner, Berlusconi and Banderas, and most recently Ganderas (by Banderas x Hofrat) and Giuliani (by Berlusconi x Kanudos xx),
Ebert's mare Belle Fleur (by Millennium x Le Rouge) was the 2018 Trakehner Elite Mare Champion. Ebert collaborated with horse dealer Heinrich Ramsbrock and rider Hella Kuntz.
He was decorated with the Siegfried Freiherr von Schrötter-Wohnsdorff Memorial Medal and named "Trakehner Breeder of the Year" in 2011. He received the Golden Badge of Honor of the Trakehner Association in 2023 and the "Dietrich von Lenski-Kattenau Memorial Award" in 2024.
He leaves behind wife Thekla and daughter Isabel.
