-- USPRE press release by Lily Forado
Romero de Trujillo is not just any name — it is the crown jewel of Yeguada Trujillo. Bred by José Franco Sánchez and owned by Yeguada Trujillo, this stallion began a wave of successes at SICAB 2015 and has continued without pause ever since.
Balancing his performances in conformation and dressage shows, the anchor of Yeguada Trujillo is a diamond that has never ceased to shine. Season after season, the stud farm’s trophy cabinets have been filled with ribbons, creating an extraordinary and unique sporting record.
At SICAB 2019, he bid farewell to his brilliant conformation career in the grandest way possible, being crowned World Champion and World Champion in Functionality. In 2022, the White Pearl of Yeguada Trujillo was part of the Dressage National Spanish Team at the World Championships in Herning, Denmark. Since 2008, Yeguada Trujillo has been building its legacy within the P.R.E. breeding program, with Romero de Trujillo as the driving force behind it all.
Recently, at the City of Industry show, Yeguada Trujillo made a strong appearance with their entire competition team — no less than 13 horses. The true star and main protagonist was Monarca de Trujillo, who earned the title of Champion of the Show. This grey stallion is following in the footsteps of his father.
In other words, a big success for the American-based stud, which continues to collect achievements on U.S. soil. Today, we speak with Victor Molina, who shares his feedback about City of Industry and the goals for the 2025 season.
– When was Yeguada Trujillo founded?
Yeguada Trujillo was born out of the passion of Sabas Trujillo and his family in 2008.
– What characteristics define the horses from your brand in terms of conformation and movement?
We strive to breed horses with a solid structure, starting with correct conformation. We aim for racial (typical) horses, both in their conformation and in their movements, above all, with a good temperament and rideability.
– Can you tell us about the breeding lines at Yeguada Trujillo?
We are focused on the best of Marín García lines. Our breeding project is based on the offspring of our stallion Romero de Trujillo.
We are proud to have bred this horse, and even more so that he is the on of Romero de Trujillo. Monarca is a very “breed specific” horse, with an impressive conformation, and his gaits are also outstanding! That has led him to become the Absolute Champion twice at the Show in May, the most important event in the U.S. for this breed. We have big plans for him in the future.
– What would you highlight about Granada de Trujillo? As Best Movements Champion, where does she excel the most?
Granada is a mare with three very good gaits. I would particularly highlight her trot, which has a lot of overtrack, is powerful, and is naturally suspended. She won Best Movements in the adult mare category at the 2021 World Championship (SICAB), and again in the U.S. in 2024 and 2025.
– What role do events like City of Industry play in the growth and promotion of the P.R.E. breed in the U.S.?
It is surely the biggest showcase for the P.R.E. in the U.S.—a great way to measure the quality of the horses being bred, and also an important event where significant sales have taken place.
It was a challenge to win both titles again in 2025, but we succeeded, and these awards certainly reinforce a project that has been in the works for several years, both in the selection of breeding and in the horses we have acquired.
– What special or standout moment would you highlight from City of Industry?
Seeing Monarca wear the champion's blanket again this year!
– Looking ahead to 2025, what are Yeguada Trujillo’s main goals for its breeding program?
We want to continue investing in Dressage in Spain, with Romero and some of his sons, who are showing great potential.
As for breeding, we’re already seeing the first foals from Monarca and several daughters of Romero being born, and we’ll continue along this path that has brought us so much joy. There’s a lot of work ahead, but we’re just as excited as we were on day one.
