Claire Moir and Jane Nixon Awarded British Dressage Medal of Honour

Claire Moir and Jane Nixon were awarded the British Dressage Medal of Honour at the British Dressage Championships in Somerford a week ago.

British Dressage recognises outstanding commitment to the sport by presenting the prestigious BD Medal of Honour to two inspiring recipients.

Awarded to those who have shown exceptional dedication to the sport, the BD Medal of Honour recognises those who’ve committed long-standing service to British Dressage via distinguished careers. It stands as a symbol of excellence, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the values and development of the sport.

Claire Moir

Former BD Youth Director Claire Moir was also awarded the BD Medal of Honour, in recognition of her outstanding dedication and contribution, especially in the area of training and development.

After her riding career, Claire served as Chef d’Equipe for the International Youth Teams for nine years; supporting those representing their country at FEI European Championships. She is currently an educator and assessor for the British Dressage Coaching Certificates, and a mentor on the British Dressage Apprenticeship Scheme.

Claire has shaped many young lives, playing an instrumental part in the introduction of the Youth Academies, whilst also supporting the development of the British Dressage Apprenticeships programme. She was also the driving force behind the introduction of the British Dressage Horse Care Certificates, which are actively playing a crucial role in BD’s mission to educate members of all ages on how to ensure their horse’s well-being is always a number one priority.

In the area of governance, Claire served as BD Youth Director for seven years before taking up the position of nominated non-executive director on the BEF board too.

Jane Nixon

Highly respected equine veterinarian Jane Nixon was awarded the BD Medal of Honour by Chairman Jill Day, in recognition of her outstanding commitment and contribution in her field.

As a leading figure in equine veterinary practice, Jane has held several prestigious consultancy appointments and chairmanships, including serving on the BEF Board for eight years. Jane’s commitment and passion to equine health and welfare is recognised by many in the industry and she has been deeply trusted to support British Dressage.

With over 45 years of experience in the field, Jane has been a key support in the all-important area of equine welfare, advising on rules, regulations and all matters of horse care.
