Lily Forado reported that the 2026 Spanish Dressage Championships will urgently have to find a new location as host Real Club de Polo de Barcelona has pulled out.
The Spanish Nationals for dressage and para dressage are scheduled to take place on 3 - 7 June 2026. They count as an observation event for Spanish team selection for the 2026 World Championships.
The sudden withdrawal of Barcelona comes after the detection of the infectious disease strangles with several horses.
The situation already "forced the cancellation of the 58th Barcelona Polo Challenge Negrita Cup scheduled for this May. (...) The club has opted to strictly apply veterinary protocols and the necessary preventative measures to avoid moving horses for the next few weeks," Forado reported.
Other candidates who had placed a bid to host the 2026 Nationals were Las Cadenas (Madrid), Montenmedio (Vejer de la Frontera) and Rios EQ (Murcia). These three will get a first option to come to the rescue, otherwise the bidding process will be reopened.
