Descolari, a highly decorated medal winning German team youth riders horse owned by Alessa Maass, has moved on with a new junior rider.

Descolari is a 16-year old Hanoverian by Desperados x Weltmeyer x Legat, bred by Manfred Zimmermann.

The Beginnings

Originally owned by Gestut Sprehe, Descolari got licensed and named reserve champion at the 2012 Brandenburg Stallion Licensing in Neustadt/Dosse, where he sold at auction for 110,000 euro to the Brandenburg state stud.

Lena Feistkorn first competed him in 2014 until June 2015. He was then sent to Isabell Werth for training.  Her assistant rider Lisa Wernitznig competed Descolari between May 2017 and July 2018.  To secure a coveted place in the 2018 Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals for developing PSG horses, Werth climbed onboard and won the Donaueschingen qualifier with 74.488%.

Luca Collin

In November 2018 the stallion sold to Luca Collin, who was a junior rider at the time, but the horse remained under the supervision of Werth in collaboration with Luca's coach Jochen Bender. Werth still rode the stallion in the 2018 Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals in Frankfurt where they became reserve champions.

Luca then took over the ride and won team gold at the 2020 European Young Riders Championships in Pilisjasfalu (HUN), where they finished fifth and sixth individually. In 2021they won the Preis der Besten and team silver and individual bronze at the 2021 European Young Rider Championship in Oliva Nova, Spain. They won the 2020 and 2021 German Young Riders Championships.

In 2022 the pair did not compete internationally. Luca showed nationally at small tour level between May 2022 and February 2023, but missed out on German team selection last year after finishing 11th in the Preis der Besten in Warendorf.

Alessa Maass

In March 2023 Descolari sold to the Maass family for Alessa to make the transition to junior level. Alessa had won team gold with Germany at the 2022 European Children Championships on Floricella and also competed pony TI Drei D internationally at the time.

The new duo premiered in May 2023 and finished 10th at the 2023 German Junior Riders Championships. Their international debut was at the 2023 CDI Kronenberg Indoor. In 2024 they rode at the Preis der Besten, CDI-J Hagen and CDI Kronenberg Indoor. They were fourth at the 2024 German Junior Riders Championships. Maass continued to compete him through the spring of 2025 with their last show being the Kronberg qualifier for the Preis der Besten.

Alessa continued her junior career on her second horse Fraulein Tausendschön (by First Selection x Rifaisos), while trainer Jochen Bender showed Descolari in the summer of 2025 at small tour level at two local shows.

New Junior Rider for Lari

Alessa has now passed on the reins on Descolari to German junior rider Carolin Berg.

"My family and I made the decision to lease my heart horse, Lari, to the Berg family until the end of next season," Alessa told Eurodressage. "This arrangement allows him to remain in training with my trainer, Jochen Bender, and continue doing what he loves most. I’m grateful for all the memories Lari and I have shared and look forward to following his continued success while embracing the next chapter of my own journey."

Berg began competing in Germany in 2022 at E and A-level on Belle Jolie (by Baccardi x Jazzmate). In 2024 she rode All We Need VEC (by Abegglen x Briar) and K.C. Surprice (by Sezuan x Ragazzo). The latter has taken her to M-level through June 2026.

Berg had her show debut on Descolari at M-level at the CDN Duisburg on 6 June 2026.

New Path for Alessa

Maas competed the Westfalian mare Fraulein Tausenschon at the 2025 Preis der Besten and CDI-J Hagen. Their start at the German Junior Championships did not go as planned as they were excused from the test. Alessa has not shown since.

"I was focusing on my final IB exams," Maass explained. "My own journey is taking me abroad for my studies, and I’m excited to bring my horse Fräulein Tausendschön along for this new adventure. My family is moving to Spain and I have a couple of options to choose from where I will be located and will be studying."

Alessa plans to study Business and Economics, but where exactly is not yet decided.
