A new record price has been achieved at the Vechta Auction Centre on Sunday October 5, 2008. The 3-year old licensed Oldenburg stallion Statesman sold for 400,000 euro to the Luxembourg syndicate LUX-dressage
which includes Christoph Umbach, Michel Waehnert and Sascha Schulz.
The Luxembourg association broke the record price of 667,000 Deutsch mark (341,000 euro) which Sissy Max-Theurer paid for August der Starke several years ago.
Statesman is by Stedinger out of the State Premium Mare Weissendra (by Donnerschwee) and is bred by and was owned by the American Ann Kitchel. She bought Weissendra from breeder Clemens von Merveldt at the Vechta Auction in 2001 and Statesman was born and raised at Von Merveldt's stable in Vechta, Germany. The dark bay stallion finished third at this year's Bundeschampionate under Heiko Klausing.
The Luxembourg people went on a shopping spree in Vechta as they also acquired Furstengruss (by Furst Heinrich x Welt Hit II) for 78,000 euro and the licensed pony stallion Hennes (by Henry x Balthasar) for 60,000 euro.
Ten horses sold for over 50,000 euro. The second most expensive horse was Roadrunner (by Royal Diamond x Parabol) which sold for 150,000 euro to the Kampmann family. The Bechtolsheimer family bought Stepdance (by Stedinger x Don Gregory) for 140,000 euro. Swiss dressage rider Hans Staub paid 50,000 euro for Disaronno (by Dimaggio).
The most expensive show jumping horse was Queen Jasmin (by Quattro B x Landcapital) which sold for 70,000 euro. The most expensive foal was Arco's Amati, the full sister to show jumper Arko III. This filly sold for 47,000 euro.
69 Oldenburg sport horses were sold at the 2008 Vechta October Elite Auction and they achieved an average price of 35,058 euro. 46 foals were sold for an average price of 10,113 euro.
