The highest turnover since the Addington Sales were introduced 18 years ago was achieved last weekend at the 2015 Brightwells Elite August Sale in Addington, Great Britain. Two horses - show jumper and dressage horse Famoya, shared the top price of £55,000.
The figure of £715,200 represented a 31% increase on 2014 and was further enhanced by a clearance rate of 80% for the Saturday evening sale of Dressage Horses and Show Jumpers.
It was a UK Vendor, Harrington Horses, who were selling at the Addington Sales for the first time, who achieved the top slot for a jumper, with the beautifully bred 3 year old stallion Supernova (by Casall) whose mother is a full sister to the licensed stallion Chippendale (by Carthago x Calypso II).
The top priced dressage horse was Famoya, a 5-year old KWPN elite mare by Tuschinski, selling at £55,000 (77,550 euro). Famoya came from Holland and was beautifully produced by the same vendors who sold Donna at the new March Elite Dressage Auction for £120,000.
The next highest priced lot was the stunning 3-year old daughter Jazz Queen (by Jazzmate), selected in Germany and sold for 49,350 euro to Tracy Woodcock, who was celebrating her 25th Wedding Anniversary.
The third best selling dressage horse was the 3-year old Quo Vado (by Quasar de Charry x Lauries Crusador xx) which switched owners for 39,480 euro.
Terry Court, Brightwells Director of Equine expressed his delight with the sale; “There was a fantastic atmosphere at the sale and the demand from buyers, whose confidence in the quality of horses offered at Addington continues to grow as past graduates keep competing with success for their new owners. We would like to thank our vendors for their continued support and now look forward to the Blenheim Sale of Event Horses and the December Elite Auction back here at Addington.”
Richard Botterill who was selling at Addington for the last time said: “It was wonderful to finish my last auction at Addington with a record sale. The past eighteen years building the Sport Horse Sales at Addington for Brightwells has been a privilege and the friendships I have made in the UK and throughout Europe will remain with me for life. My fondest memory and greatest achievement was to select and sell Vindicat W, who went on to take the Olympic Team Gold at London for Great Britain with Peter Charles. Peter purchased him at the Addington August Sale. There is a brilliant and dedicated team at Brightwells, who will take the Sport Horses Sales to even higher levels in the future, as was shown last Saturday night, these sales provide the British with an opportunity that they really need to support, as proven by a UK vendor selling the top priced show jumper for £55,000 on Saturday night."
