The Oldenburg breeding stallion Ibiza has returned to Germany, where he will continue his breeding and sport career. More popular on the German market, the 8-year old Ibiza has not been shown in sport in 17 months.

The Dutch warmblood stallion (by Desperado x Jazz) is bred by Luc Boogert in The Netherlands. He was purchased as a foal by Eugene Reesink and Ad Valk.

Ibiza stood out at the KWPN foal inspection as the best Desperado offspring presented and sold as a foal for 72,000 euro at the 2013 Midden-Nederland Foal Auction to Jan Vink. However, shortly afterwards he returned into the hands of Reesink and Valk.

Germany

The Dutch stallion owners' duo presented the chestnut at the 2015 Oldenburg Stallion licensing in Vechta, Germany, where he was accepted

He was presented at auction and sold for 170,000 euro, but ended up being bought back by Valk and Reesink, who a few hours later sold the young stallion privately to the Dutch company Asgard Dressage, owned by German Vasco Janke.

Ibiza did his 14-day Stallion Suitability Test in Adelheidsdorf, Germany, in the spring of 2016 and scored 8.0.

Holland

In 2017 Ibiza moved back to Holland and was put in training with Emmelie Scholtens.

She competed in the 2017 Pavo Cup, in which he finished fifth in the finals. At the 2017 German Stallion Sport Test in Munster, Scholtens rode Ibiza to a 8.73 final score.

Ibiza also competed in the first qualifier of the 2017-2018 KWPN Stallion Competition circuit to seek approval with the KWPN society, but the stallion bit his tongue and was excused from the test. He never again competed on the circuit and did not get KWPN approved.

Germany

Without a KWPN breeding license, Ibiza found his market as a sire in Germany and Denmark.

The Hamburg based Juliane Brunkhorst took over the ride in 2018 and she piloted him at the 2018 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo, where they finished 6th in the Finals.

Ibiza then disappeared from the scene for more than a year.  At the time, Brunkhorst stated that the qualification process for Dutch team selection for the 2019 World Championships was too difficult, with too much travelling, but the stallion did not show in Germany either.

After a 13-month show break Ibiza made his come back in September 2019 in Medingen, where he won an M-level dressage horse test. It was the horse's last competition start in his career, so far.

Holland

At the beginning of January 2020 the 7-year old Ibiza was trailered back to Emmelie Scholtens in The Netherlands, who planned on training him and competing him at (developing) Prix St Georges level.

Corona came and although the competition circuit in Holland kept on going until the second wave, Ibiza was not shown that year.

Germany

"In Germany there is more demand for him than in Holland, so that's why he's going," Scholtens told Eurodressage about Ibiza moving, again, back to Germany.

The stallion is now based at Martin Determann's in Vechta, Germany.

"The new rider of Ibiza will be Kira Wulferding. She is going to train him in future and ride him on competition," said Vasco Janke's spokesperson Inka Bütje.  Owner Vasco Janke added, "Ibiza will be trained on the highest level."
