Total Caledonia

Total Caledonia, Gestut Schafhof's 3-year old Oldenburg stallion who was a crowd favorite at the Licensing in Vechta, will get a break from breeding. Due to immensely popular demand, the young sire can not cope and has been pulled off stud duty to rest, develop and mature.

Total Caledonia is by Totilas out of elite mare Sugar Plum Fairy (by Sir Donnerhall x Don Schufro x Friedensherr).

He is bred by Raey Campbell in Scotland and was bought as a foal by Gestut Schafhof.  His full sister, Shadow Fairy Caledona, was a bronze medalist at the 2022 Oldenburg elite mare show in Rastede. She is also owned by Schafhof.

The elegant black Total Caledonia made an impression at the 2023 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Vechta last January, where he was the third ranked premium stallion.

Overwhelming Demand

His outstanding performance at the licensing made him in very hot demand with the breeders.

"We are overwhelmed by the demand for our Total Caledonia his early in the breeding season," Matthias Rath explained. "Despite very good management, the pregnancy rate of the already inseminated mares with the only three-year-old Total Caledonia does not meet our requirements. We will give the stallion the necessary time to mature further and therefore take him out of service for the time being."

Rath continued, "breeders who have already inseminated with Total Caledonia (and whose mares are not in foal) can of course switch to any other stallion at our station. If this is not what you want, we will refund the insemination fee you have already paid or credit it for the next year. We will only charge you for the costs incurred for shipping."

Schafhof Breeders' Day on 15 April 2023

Gestut Schafhof is hosting a Breeders Day on Saturday 15 April 2023.

All stallions will be presented to the audience and free food and drinks are offered afterwards.

"Admission is free, but we would be very happy about a donation to the Linsenhoff Foundation," said Rath. The donations collected will be used 100% for the integration of refugee children. Come by and secure unique moments with our stallions in the beautiful scenery of the Schafhof!"
