Micky Schelstraete will not be competing on Team The Netherlands at the 2023 European Young Riders Championships in Pilisjaszfalu (HUN) on 11 - 16 July 2023. Her horse is not fit to compete.
Schelstraete was selected to represent The Netherlands at the Europeans with the 8-year old KWPN bred Duval's Kapri Son (by Capri Sonne Jr x San Remo), which her parents own in partnership with the breeder J.C. van der Endt.
"At the trainings camp Duval's Kapri Son knocked himself and in the interest of the horse it has been decided not to travel to the European Championships," the Dutch equestrian federation communicated.
Micky's mom Jonna Schelstraete stated, "so sad, but this is the flip side of the sport. Yesterday in the morning we trained so well at the training camp in Ermelo. Such a pity but we can only say that we hope Kapri gets well soon. That's the most important."
Her spot will be taken by the first reserve, Rowena Weggelaar on the 15-year old KWPN bred Don Quichot (by United x Gribaldi). She will join team mates Robin Heiden (Gasmonkey),
Shanna Baars (Farzana G), and Chiel van Bedaf (Key-West Texel).
