German Olympian Sönke Rothenberger has become a first time father. On 5 September 2023 his son Adri Cedric Rothenberger was born.
The 29-year old Rothenberger and his fiancée, Svenja Isabell Ziske, have been a couple for the past five years. She is head of creative development at the online shop Westwing.
Sönke announced that they were expecting their first child on 18 August when he pulled out of the German team for the 2023 European Dressage Championships in Riesenbeck.
The baby boy was born a week ago and has been named after Sönke's late grand father, Adri Gordijn, who passed away in 2011 and instilled a passion for dressage and particularly breeding in Sönke.
"In a snap of time, priorities in life are turned 180 degrees," Sönke posted to Instagram to announce the birth of his son. "Welcome to the world little prince. Adri Cedric Rothenberger was born 5th of September. He is more than I ever wished for. I love our little family."
