Only two hours after the Eurodressage publication of the news that Sjef Janssen accepted the job to train German Matthias Rath and his young FEI horses, the Dutch Equestrian Federation kicked into action and forced Janssen to postpone training his new student until after the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The news of a German team anchor moving to perpetual rival country The Netherlands for tuition was unacceptable to the Dutch Equestrian Federation (KNHS). Sjef Janssen is the official Dutch team trainer contracted by his national Federation. The KNHS considers it a conflict of interest if Janssen were to coach Rath, even if it is not on his top horse Totilas.
At approximately 9.20 PM the Dutch Equestrian Federation issued a very brief statement through its press officer Jacob Melissen: "After a consultation with the Dutch Equestrian Federation, team coach Sjef Janssen has decided not to train Matthias Alexander Rath until after the 2012 Olympic Games."
