The 2021 European Under 25 Dressage Championships will not be taking place in Donaueschingen, Germany. Show organizer Escon Marketing cancelled and the FEI will have to restart the bidding process.
In June 2019, the FEI allocated the 2021 Under 25 Euros to Donaueschingen. Show directors Kasper Funke and Niklas Droste had a masterplan going for 2021 with an extra warm up ring behind the soccer fields.
Unfortunately the FEI required Donaueschingen to give its final go this week and due to the uncertain circumstances with the corona pandemic, Escon Marketing preferred to cancel instead of commit.
"We were very convinced that Donaueschingen would have been a good venue in the center of Europe. Unfortunately we have to take advantage of the final chance to return Donaueschingen as Championship location to the FEI," said Funke in a press release which Reiter Journal received.
Escon Marketing will decide in the spring of 2021 if the annual CHI will take place.
For 2021 the FEI will now have to look for a venue in no less than four age categories. The European Pony Championships have been allocated to Strzegom, Poland, but for the Children, Junior and Young Riders no venue had been allocated so far. Now the Under 25s have also lost their Championships.
Negotiations are ongoing to return the European Youth Championships for these age divisions to Stable Unikornis in Pilisjaszfalu, Hungary, in 2021. Hungarian entrepreneur Arie Yom-Tov and rescued the Championships for all youth riders this year by generously hosting the Championships as a last minute save. However, Valencia is also in the running.
