Marina Mattsson's number one Grand Prix horse Quartermain has been sold to the U.S.A.
Quatermain is a 12-year old Hanoverian gelding by Quarterback out of World Lady (by Wilawander xx). He is bred by Anette Holst in Denmark and was owned by Swedish investor Patrick Hannell.
Mattsson and Quatermain
Mattsson received the ride on the chestnut when he was a 5 year old, taking him over Danish Flemming Thomsen who had already started working him towards FEI level.
The pair made its international show debut at small tour level in 2017 at the CDI Lier, where they won the Prix St Georges and Inter I Kur. Fourteen months later they returned to the CDI ring at Under 25 level at the 2018 CDIO Uggerhalne, where they won the Inter II and placed second in the Short Grand Prix. They rode at the CDIO-U25 in Aachen and represented Sweden at the European Under 25 Championships in Exloo, where they were fifth in the Kur.
In 2019 the pair competed in Herning, Uggerhalne, and Stockholm. They were selected on the Swedish team for the 2019 European Under 25 Championships in Italy but didn't go.
They won the 2018 and 2019 Swedish Under 25 Championship. At the 2020 Swedish Dressage Championships for senior Grand Prix riders the pair won bronze.
Marienau and Quatermain
Mattsson will have to wait a little longer to finally make her debut on the Swedish senior Grand prix team as Quartermain sold.
"I had a contract on Quartermain for 5 years and that expired after the Olympics in Tokyo 2020, which never took place," Mattsson explained. "According to the contract, Quartermain was to be sold after the Olympics. I have experienced a lot of joy with this horse and I am very happy for the time we spent together."
The Hanoverian found a new owner in Beatrice "Trixi" Marienau.
After retiring her top ride Stefano (by Gribaldi x Actueel) from international Grand Prix sport in 2018, Marienau has been absent from the CDI stage. In 2020 Marienau has been restocking on FEI horses and acquired the 7-year old Dutch warmblood Joe H (by Blue Hors Zatchmo x Vivaldi x Metall) in The Netherlands and Quatermain in Sweden.
Originally from Bad Kreuznach (GER), Marienau used to be based in Colorado but is now in Wellington, Florida. She is a cousin to British Olympian Laura Tomlinson-Bechtolsheimer.
