Jan Streppel has been named the KWPN Breeder of the Year 2020.
Traditionally the Breeder of the Year trophy is announced during the KWPN Horse Days in August, but this year's edition took place in a slimmed down format due to Covid-19.
Surprise
Instead the KWPN society announced the name of the Breeder of the Year during the 2021 KWPN Stallion Licensing and played a video where a KWPN crew went to Jan Streppel's home in Wilp, The Netherlands, to surprise and honour him for his breeding achievements.
Streppel's most famous breeding products are the TC Athene (by United x Jazz), the 2019 European Under 25 Champion and the World Young Horse Championship medal winner and licensed stallion Governor (by Totilas x Jazz).
Jan Streppel and his wife Miny live in the family home, which is a diary farm and they combined the breeding of livestock with horses.
"I don't know what to say," said a visibly moved Streppel when he received the trophy for Breeder of the Year. "This is beautiful. I achieved this together with the breeders and owners of my horses and I want to thank everyone involved."
Orleans and Toulouse
Streppel's breeding programme is based on the two Jazz daughters Orleans and Toulouse and their offspring. Both mares are full sisters to Adelinde Cornelissen's Olympic medal winner Parzival.
Orleans produced Governor, who was the reserve champion of the KWPN Licensing and is now being trained to Grand Prix level by Cornelissen, as well as TC Athene who has won 12 medals in total at the European youth riders championships under Jeanine Nieuwenhuis.
Toulouse produced six elite mares and two Grand Prix horses, including Genua TC (by Charmeur) who recently passed away. Toulouse passed away in October 2018.
