Straight Horse Don Zuan, New Ride for Sophie Reef

After losing her Young Riders horse in December 2020, German U25 rider Sophie Reef travelled to Denmark and bought Straight Horse Don Zuan as a successor.

Straight Horse Don Zuan is a 7-year old Danish warmblood gelding by Zack out of Bogegardens Don Romina (by Don Schufro). He is bred by Eva Götzsche and Mogens Pedesen.

Vallentin and Dufour

Don Zuan was purchased by Andreas Helgstrand as a sales horse and first trained by Under 25 rider Victoria Vallentin, who competed him only once as a 4-year old in 2018 at the qualifier for the Danish Young Horse Championships.

In 2019 he was sent to Cathrine Dufour to be developed there and she showed him three times that year, ending up in a fourth place at the 2019 Danish Young Horse Championships for 5-year olds.

In 2020 the pair won their first and only show of the year, the qualifier for the Danish YH Championships in June scoring 93%. They were selected for the 2020 World Young Horse Championships but the event was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Reef

Don Zuan has now been sold to German Sophie Reef who has been competing at international Young Riders and Under 25 level.

"He is an amazing horse, and he overwhelmed me from the first moment I sat on him," said Reef. "He is really powerful, and as his results indicate, he has loads of potential for top-sport. Cathrine has made an impressive work with him."

Two days ago, Reef participated in the Piaff Forderpreis training seminar and selection trial in Warendorf with the 14-year old KWPN mare Charming Lady (by Painted Black x Krack C). They scored 68.178% to place 16th. Only 13 riders were selected to compete on the circuit this year.
