Due to the competition stop because of the EHV-1 lockdown and due to the exclusion of amateur athletes from competitions because of corona, the Ankumer Dressage Club competition on 6 - 11 April 2021 will not take place. Instead, there will be an ADC summer tournament in Hagen a.T.W. at Hof Kasselmann for the first time.
"It has always been our goal that within the spring months both professional and amateur athletes can participate in the Ankumer Dressage Club tournaments again. However, the current conditions do not allow us to realize this goal," explains organizer Ullrich Kasselmann.
Back to Normal So Soon?
Kasselmann argues that the question for show organizers, as well as participants, is whether it is justifiable to go directly back to normal tournament routine so shortly after the tragic effects of the spread of EHV-1.
"The German Equestrian Federation's (FN) decision to allow equestrian events to take place after March 29 should not be seen as a "free ride" to travel with one's horse, train or compete without hesitation. Rather, we as riders, horse owners and organizers should not disregard the fact that caution is still required until April 11," Kasselmann stated.
"The ADC tournament date unfortunately falls in a period in which we should not act negligently under any circumstances. Since our participants often come together from all over Germany, we as organizers do not want to take any risks and feel it is our duty to act in the best interest of our horses' health," Ulli concluded.
ADC Summer Edition in Hagen
Since the spring series of ADC tournaments has been so massively shortened and limited by both EHV-1 and Corona measures, an ADC summer tournament is being planned for the 2021 season for the first time.
"Our team is currently trying to find an alternative date in June, so that in Hagen a.T.W. at Hof Kasselmann the members of the Ankumer Dressurclub will again have the opportunity to practice their sport," said the show organiser. "We as the organizers are very sorry that the Ankumer Dressurclub tournaments have to be postponed again. In this difficult time, we therefore ask for your understanding and would be very pleased if you together with us confidently look forward to the further course of the 2021 show season."
