Swedish Olympian Minna Telde presented a new Grand Prix horse at the 2021 CDI-W Kunkiai in Lithuania on 21 - 23 May 2021: the American owned Praestemarkens Quatero.
Praestemarkens Quatero is a 12-year old Danish warmblood by Quaterback out of Rahvia Hojris (by Rohdiamant). He is bred in Denmark by Inger Recht.
American Owned and Trained
American Grand Prix professional Heather Blitz has known Quatero since before he was born. Blitz recommended breeder Recht to use Quaterback on his mare.
Heather and the breeder agreed to have her develop Quatero to FEI level, as a successor for her Olympic short-listed Grand Prix horse Paragon (by Don Schufro). Blitz took co-ownership in 2014 with the breeder.
The pair made its international show debut at small tour level at the 2017 CDI Tryon, winning the Prix St Georges, Inter I and Inter I Kur with three seventy percentage scores.
Blitz and Quatero went on to win seven out of nine small tour tests at the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Floirida, before they won the 2018 U.S. Small Tour Championships at Lamlight in August of that year.
Back to Denmark
Quatero was shipped to Denmark before the corona pandemic to be further managed by Ole Hummelshöj and to be sold.
"Quatero was in training with my Danish partner Ole Hummelshöj and we decided that I would try and train him," Telde told Eurodressage. "I have ridden him over a year now."
Grand Prix Debut
Under Minna Telde, the now 12-year old Quatero made his international Grand Prix debut at the 2021 CDI-W Kunkiai, posting promising scores on the board. In a field of 12 riders from six different nations, Telde steered Quatero to a second place in the Grand Prix with 71.543% and a third in the freestyle with 73.275%.
"This was our second Grand Prix and there is room for plenty of improvement, though I was pleased with his way working in the arena," Telde explained. "It’s a really nice show here at the Horsemarket in Kunkiai and for us we need to train to compete so two weekends in a row with good stables good footing and good judges seemed like a good way to start."
Telde, who represented Sweden at the 2012 London Olympics with Santana, last competed internationally in October 2019 with her long-time Grand Prix partner Isac (by Hip Hop x Master). The now 16-year old Isac sold in December 2019 to Marie Sophie Ehlen in Germany.
Minna will be further developing Quatero until he sold.
"Our plan now is getting him more secure in the arena," she said. "It’s still baby mistakes and learning how he works in the arena. We planned to see how he took this show and then we see what he is ready for."
