George Williams has been re-elected as president of the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) for an unprecedented fourth term.
Elections for the position of treasurer and president were held during the Board of Governors General Assembly (BOG) during the 2021 USDF Annual Convention on 1 - 4 December. The convention was held by Zoom instead of the originally planned in-person meeting in Houston.
Entering into the convention, two candidates had been nominated for the position of president, Kevin Reining of Region 7 and Steven Schubert of Region 8.
As is permitted by USDF Bylaws, Iris Berdrow of Region 8 nominated former USDF President George Williams, from the floor of the BOG, to the position of president for a new term. Upon the nomination and acceptance, Kevin Reinig chose to rescind his candidacy in favor of supporting George, meaning Kevin will remain in his current role as USDF Vice President for the remainder of his current term.
Lorraine Musselman had been elected to the position of treasurer.
The 66-year old Williams, who stepped down as USDF president in 2018 after two terms and nine years, was succeeded by Lisa Gorretta in 2019.
“I still really care about the USDF,” Williams was quoted on The Chronicle of the Horse. “Having been with it for the nine years as president and then being away from it, I still watched everything that was going on and still wanted to see it move forward. I think that overall the programs have a lot of room for improvement, and there are a lot of areas we can do that, and I’m very interested in doing that.”
